Biography: Life of Sun Yat-sen

Sun Yat-sen, the father of the Republic of China, was born on November 12, 1866 in Kwangtung Province.
Sun gave up a medical career to devote himself to the overthrow of the corrupt Manchu government. In 1894 Sun set up the Society for Regenerating China. Sun and his followers fought the Manchu government until they took Wuchang, the capital of Hupei Province, on October 10, 1911. The people all over China rose against the imperial government, ending the Chinese monarchy.
Sun was elected provisional president of the republic. He was inaugurated on January 1, 1912, the birthday of the Republic of China. For over two decades, Sun worked to create a unified and centralized government. Sun Yat-sen died of liver cancer on March 12, 1925 in Peking.
