Life History of Louis Armstrong
1901 – Louis Armstrong born August 1, 1901.
1914 – Armstrong sent to Colored Waifs’ Home where he learns to play cornet.
1917 – Armstrong assumes chair of King Oliver with King Ory band.
1922 – Louis Armstrong joins Creole Jazz Band in Chicago.
1924 – Armstrong joins Fletcher Henderson band in Harlem.
1935 – Armstrong forms his own band with Joe Glaser as manager.
1957 – Armstrong speaks out against racial discrimination.
1971 – Louis Armstrong dies July 6, 1971.
